Goheung new-harvest rice, 10kg for 36,500 won, goes on pre-order for chuseok

Haechang Bay reclaimed-land rice available for advance reservation on 'Goheung Mall'

New-harvest rice branded "Rice Embracing Goheung" has gone on sale through online pre-orders, timed to the early-variety harvest season at Haechang Bay reclaimed land in Podu-myeon, Goheung-gun, South Jeolla Province.

According to the agricultural policy division of Goheung County Office on Tuesday, the variety being harvested since mid-August is "Jomyeong," an early-ripening strain that can be brought in before chuseok. Farmers have praised it for its taste, lodging resistance and high yield.

Early-variety rice is currently grown on about 700 hectares across Goheung-gun, with roughly 4,000 metric tons expected to be produced this year. After milling at the Heungyang Agricultural Cooperative's rice processing complex, the grain will be sold as new-harvest chuseok rice.

The Goheung new-harvest rice grown at Haechang Bay reclaimed land is priced at 36,500 won ($26) for a 10-kilogram bag. Shoppers can reserve a buy-one-get-one offer through the online shopping platform Goheung Mall.

"We will strengthen distribution and promotional support so that the fresh, high-quality new-harvest rice produced in Goheung can be supplied stably to consumers nationwide through Goheung Mall," county chief Gong Yeong-min said.
