Four industrial zones covering about 650,000 square meters targeted; public hearing set for Aug. 26
Gwangju City, led by Mayor Park Gwan-yeol, is moving forward with a blueprint for the systematic management and economic revitalization of its industrial zones.
The city held a final briefing Wednesday at Eum Hall in City Hall on the "2030 Gwangju City Industrial Zone Master Plan," being developed under Article 6 of the Special Act on the Management and Revitalization of Urban Industrial Zones.
The plan covers four industrial zones within Gwangju — the Jangji, Samni, Samni B and Gungpyeong districts — with a combined area of approximately 650,000 square meters.
The briefing shared findings from an analysis of current conditions and locational factors across the zones, and brought together comprehensive discussions on management direction and spatial reorganization strategies for their systematic upkeep and efficient improvement.
Key items presented included the master plan management framework and draft plan, an analysis of current conditions and surrounding factors, development directions for each district, and the upcoming schedule, including a public hearing.
The city plans to hold a public hearing on Aug. 26, then finalize the master plan after completing follow-up administrative steps, including gathering opinions from the city council in September.
"This 2030 industrial zone master plan will serve as an opportunity to establish a foundational framework for systematically managing industrial zones that have aged and lack adequate infrastructure," Mayor Park said. "We will do our utmost to present a rational improvement direction suited to local conditions, create a business-friendly environment and lay the groundwork for sustainable urban growth."
