Seoul's Eunpyeong-gu district will host its first poetry contest at the Crossing the Stream Into the Forest Library from Sept. 1 to Sept. 21, the district announced.
The contest was organized to foster literary sensibility and inspire creative writing. It is open to all, with entries divided into three age-based categories: the children's division (born in 2014 or later), the youth division (born between 2008 and 2013), and the adult division (born in 2007 or earlier).
Submissions will be accepted from Sept. 1 through Sept. 21. Participants must submit one unpublished original poem on a topic of their choice — no longer than two A4 pages — to a designated email address.
Judging will proceed in two rounds, with results to be posted on the library's website and communicated to participants individually in October. A total of 10 winners will be recognized across all categories, including one grand prize winner (300,000 won, approximately $213), along with top, excellence and encouragement award recipients.
"I hope this contest gives residents a chance to share their poetic sensibilities and feel closer to literature in their everyday lives," district mayor Kim Mi-kyung said. "We will continue to build a reading and cultural environment where anyone can participate comfortably."
