Guro-gu won two awards Wednesday at the 2026 National Local Government Jobs Competition organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, taking the excellence prize in the jobs disclosure category and the top prize in the best project category.
The win extended the district's consecutive award streak at the competition to 11 years.
The National Local Government Jobs Competition is an annual awards ceremony held to publicize local governments' job-creation efforts and results and to strengthen accountability in employment administration. Entries are evaluated through regional assessments by province and city, followed by a central review conducted via written and in-person screening.
Last year, Guro-gu set a job-creation target of 14,400 positions and ultimately created 16,846 jobs, earning the excellence prize in the jobs disclosure category.
The district has pursued life-cycle-tailored employment support for youth, middle-aged residents and senior citizens, along with industry-academia-research collaboration projects centered on the G-Valley industrial complex.
Key initiatives include youth employment support through the youth jobs hub "Cheongnyirum," customized vocational training and job placement for middle-aged residents through the Jungjang-nyeon Ildeurim Center, development of private-sector and market-type senior employment opportunities, and technology innovation and scale-up support for outstanding small and medium-sized enterprises in G-Valley's specialized industries.
In the best project category, the "Career-Holding Women Online and Offline Employment Linkage Project" took the top prize. The program connected women with career breaks to companies in G-Valley to provide tailored job placement, and was designed to help women re-enter the workforce while easing labor shortages for businesses.
"We will continue to push forward with tailored employment projects that reflect local industry needs and on-the-ground demand, and will work to expand quality jobs and create a stable employment environment," a Guro-gu official said.
