Kim Sang-mo, a former director general for industrial technology convergence policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has been named executive vice president of the Korea Machinery Industry Promotion Association.
The association's board of directors approved the appointment Thursday at a meeting held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Seoul Pangyo hotel.
Kim entered public service through the 38th class of the national civil service examination and held a series of posts at the ministry, including head of the machinery and robot division and spokesperson. Before retiring, he served as director general for product safety policy at the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards.
In his inaugural address, Kim said the machinery industry "is facing a period of great transformation driven by the reshaping of global supply chains, digital transition and carbon neutrality," adding that he would "serve as a stepping stone for the growth of the machinery industry, drawing on 30 years of experience at the ministry."
