Korea Radioactive Waste Agency earns straight A's in radioactivity analysis assessment for 9th consecutive year

The Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) announced Sunday that it received top A ratings in all categories of the 2026 Radioactivity Analysis Proficiency Assessment, organized by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, for the ninth consecutive year.

KORAD achieved the across-the-board A rating by demonstrating outstanding precision across all areas of analysis, covering seven sample types and 12 nuclides.

The Radioactivity Analysis Proficiency Assessment has been conducted annually since 1997 to verify the analytical capabilities, data reliability and quality management of domestic radioactivity analysis institutions.

A total of 58 organizations participated in this year's assessment, including regional radioactivity monitoring stations and nuclear energy operators.

Last year, KORAD participated for the first time in an international radioactivity analysis proficiency assessment organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), earning A ratings in all categories.

"We will continue to strengthen our nuclide analysis capabilities for radioactive waste and manage radioactive waste transparently and safely so the public can feel reassured," KORAD President Cho Seong-don said.
