Cheongsong White Porcelain Festival set for Sept. 11–13 at pottery village

Cheongsong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Sunday that it will hold the 2026 Cheongsong White Porcelain Festival from Sept. 11 to 13 at the Cheongsong White Porcelain Pottery Village.

The festival was postponed last year after a large wildfire and returns after more than a year of preparation with an expanded program lineup.

This year's festival goes beyond pottery exhibitions and sales, offering a stay-and-experience craft culture event where visitors can explore the 500-year history of Cheongsong white porcelain, the skills of its artisans, and the region's natural scenery and local culture.

Signature hands-on programs — pottery wheel and hand-painting sessions — are open to visitors of all ages. An open workshop lets guests observe the production process up close, and guided workshop tours with commentary are also available.

Visitors can walk through the spaces where artisans work and learn about the history, production process and characteristics of different Cheongsong white porcelain products, gaining a deeper understanding of the craft.

A range of participatory programs for families are also planned, including play experiences themed around Cheongsong white porcelain, a wish-chime hanging activity and a stamp-mission challenge.

The exhibition lineup has also been expanded. A staged photography exhibition, an artist collaboration show, a Cheongsong White Porcelain Research Society exhibition and a community participation display will together highlight the historical significance, traditional craft and artistic value of Cheongsong white porcelain.

Performance highlights include "Cheongsong Baekja Bosang Madangguk," a traditional open-air play drawing on the history of Cheongsong white porcelain and local stories, and "Soheon Wanghu Ingeukgeuk," a puppet show aimed at children and families. Opening and closing ceremonies, invited singer performances, street arts performances and community performances will take place throughout the festival grounds.

A craft market, a traditional food stall and food trucks will also operate during the festival, creating a venue where visitors can enjoy exhibitions, hands-on activities and performances alongside a variety of local food and products all in one place.

Special purchasing benefits exclusive to the festival period are also on offer. All Cheongsong white porcelain items will be sold at a 20 percent discount, and promotions including Cheongsong Love Currency cashback based on purchase amounts and a roulette event will let visitors buy Cheongsong white porcelain at more affordable prices.

"Cheongsong white porcelain is more than everyday tableware — it is a precious cultural heritage shaped by the region's nature and the accumulated craft of its artisans over generations," said Yun Gyeong-hui, chairperson of the Cheongsong Culture and Tourism Foundation and county governor. "We hope visitors will come and see, touch and experience Cheongsong white porcelain amid the beautiful autumn scenery of Juwangsan, and feel the value of a 500-year tradition."
