The lifelong education center at Daegu Health College ran the first-half programs of its university-linked lifelong learning specialization project for local residents at the Daegu Dong-gu Lifelong Learning Education Center from May 6 through Aug. 19.
The project, part of the Glocal University 30 initiative, was developed in partnership with the Dong-gu District Office to share the university's expertise in health, wellness and care with the community and strengthen residents' capacity to manage their own health.
In the first half, two courses — a self sports-taping course and an integrated care companion training course — were each held 15 times, with a combined 22 participants completing the programs.
The self sports-taping course covered functional anatomy by body part and taught taping techniques for everyday use on the wrists, shoulders, lower back, knees and ankles.
The integrated care companion training course focused on the theory and practice needed in care settings, covering topics such as care-related systems and understanding care recipients, mobility and lifestyle support, health management, emergency response and accompanying patients to medical facilities.
The center plans to continue health and care programs closely tied to residents' daily lives in the second half of the year, including self sports-taping, integrated care companion training, dental hygiene education for middle-aged and older adults, and a cognitive health road map course.
Park Hui-ok, director of the lifelong education center and a professor in the nursing department, said the project connects the university's public health expertise to practical education that residents can apply in their daily lives. "We will consistently work with local governments to identify lifelong learning programs that reflect community needs," she added.
