Gunwi-gun chief meets Daegu mayor to discuss cooperation on TK integrated airport project

Gunwi-gun chief Kim Jin-yeol visited Daegu City Hall on Monday and met with Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho to share updates on the TK civil-military integrated airport project, discuss key pending issues and explore ways to build closer cooperation among the agencies involved.

The meeting was arranged as follow-up procedures have been delayed — partly due to difficulties securing funding for the military airport relocation — despite the project being widely seen as critical to the future of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. The two officials sought to restore momentum and produce visible early results that residents can feel.

Kim urged that civil aviation budget funds already secured be used to swiftly advance follow-up steps such as obstacle surveys and compensation procedures, in order to keep the project on track.

He also said visible follow-up measures should be put in place as soon as possible so that residents who have long awaited the new airport can see tangible progress.

In this regard, Kim and Uiseong-gun chief Choi Yu-cheol met in Gunwi-gun on Wednesday to share local concerns arising from the project and discuss ways to minimize the burden on residents in the relocation areas.

"The TK civil-military integrated airport is a vital project that will shape the future of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province," Kim said. "No single agency can make it succeed on its own, so all parties involved must communicate closely and work together."
