The University Job Plus Center at Daegu University held a four-day F&B business simulation camp — themed around visits to food-tech companies — for enrolled students from Aug. 17 to Aug. 20.
The camp was designed to give students hands-on experience with the operational processes of the food and beverage industry, from business planning and accounting to administration, while building their skills in commercial district analysis using public data and in writing business plans.
Twenty students took part, with the program combining online pre-instruction and an in-person residential camp in Seoul.
The first two days consisted of remote online sessions, during which participants studied F&B business model canvas analysis, brand identity and operational concept planning, and financial fundamentals including profit-and-loss management. They also learned store management processes and completed hands-on exercises in drafting business plans and financial execution strategies.
From the third day, the camp moved to an in-person format in Seoul. Participants visited the headquarters of F&B franchise company Hankyung Planning Co., where they received expert consulting on their individual business plans. They then completed practical training in commercial district analysis using public data from the Small Enterprise and Market Service and AI tools, before visiting one of three areas — Seongsu, Hongdae or Yeouido — in groups to produce on-site commercial district analysis reports.
On the final day, participants returned to Hankyung Planning headquarters for instruction on the R&D menu development process, including a tasting session during which they analyzed menu composition, customer response and brand differentiation factors.
Kim Jung-ho, head of Daegu University's employment support team, said the camp gave students the opportunity to experience the full range of operational processes in the F&B industry and to develop their document-writing and job-readiness skills in a setting closely tied to the sector.
