K Shipbuilding wins order for 6 petrochemical carriers worth W510b

K Shipbuilding announced Wednesday it has signed contracts with European and Middle Eastern shipowners to build six petrochemical product carriers worth a combined 510 billion won ($369 million).

The order covers two 50,000-ton petrochemical product carriers and four 74,000-ton vessels, with two of the six ships representing option quantities.

The vessels are among K Shipbuilding's core ship types and are scheduled for delivery to the owners in stages beginning in the first half of 2028. They will be built as eco-friendly, high-efficiency ships incorporating the company's hull design technology and energy-saving systems.

The ships are designed to meet the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 standard set by the International Maritime Organization under its tightened environmental regulations. A notable feature is that they can be readily converted to run on alternative fuels such as LNG or methanol, allowing owners to adapt to future market shifts.

"This order reflects the deep trust shipowners have placed in the extensive construction experience and quality K Shipbuilding has built up in the mid-size petrochemical carrier segment," a company official said. "We will deliver vessels of flawless quality and further strengthen our position as a leading mid-size shipyard on the global stage."
