People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok marked his first anniversary in office Wednesday, pledging at a press briefing to make a fresh start with the one year remaining in his term.
"Building on the unity of our party members, I will push forward into the sea of public sentiment," Jang said, adding that he would elevate the party from a "member-centered party" to a "people's livelihood party."
He also drew a sharp line against the ruling administration. "The path I want to take — the path we must take — is clear," he said. "We cannot simply stand by and let the Lee Jae Myung administration bring South Korea to ruin. We must defend this country together with the people."
