Sept. 3–5, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.: 'Beer Street' to line market's central road
Events include 'Banyeo Singing Contest' and 'Banhalmaek Beer King Competition'
The Busan city government and the Busan Economic Promotion Agency announced Wednesday they will hold the "2026 Banhalmaek (Banyeo Discount Beer) Festival" at Banyeo 2-dong Market over three days from Sept. 3 to 5.
The consumer-spending event was designed to inject vitality into traditional markets struggling with economic stagnation and sluggish consumption, and to draw more residents and visitors to the market. Banyeo 2-dong Market was selected as the host venue through a public competition in February.
Now in its second year, the Banhalmaek Festival lets visitors enjoy the market's diverse street food alongside beer, running daily from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the festival period. The program includes discounts, prize events and performances, and a public parking lot adjacent to the market means visitors can attend without worrying about parking.
The market's central road will be transformed into a "Beer Street" featuring oak-barrel tables and atmospheric lighting, creating a nighttime festival space where visitors can enjoy beer with snacks purchased inside the market. Those who spend 5,000 won or more on snacks within the market will receive a free beer coupon.
Visitors can also take part in a range of communal programs, including the "Banyeo Singing Contest," the "Banhalmaek Beer King Competition" and busking performances.
Each day of the festival, discount coupons worth up to 10,000 won ($7) per person — issued as two 5,000-won vouchers — will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers who spend 5,000 won or more will also be eligible for a lucky draw for Onuri gift certificates worth 50,000 won and a roulette prize event.
A "Youth Street" set up in vacant stalls inside the traditional market will feature a retro photo studio and a flea market run by university students and young people. Visitors who bring their own tumblers can receive free beer through a dedicated tumbler beer event.
