President Donald Trump said Thursday (local time) that the United States would provide full support to Nepal following catastrophic floods that have caused widespread casualties.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he had reached out to Nepal and told officials there that the US would offer "all the help they need."
"It was really vicious," he said. "Nobody has ever seen buildings — strong, solid, well-built buildings — swept away like toothpicks." He added that the US was sending relief supplies.
Trump said there were "about 50, maybe 60 Americans" at the scene when the floods struck. "We haven't gotten the full list yet, but I hope they're OK," he said. "But it looked like they weren't, and unfortunately it looks like there will be casualties."
