Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended Sunday morning services at Sungsan Holiness Church before taking part in the opening ceremony of the Sungsan Dream Center, located on the same premises, starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The visit reflected Yoo's long-held belief in the role of religion in community governance. He called on the church to express his gratitude for its years of service to residents in the Hapjeong-dong area and to inspect the newly opened center firsthand.
The Sungsan Dream Center, which opened Sunday, is designed to serve the neighborhood's children and youth with a range of sports and welfare services. The facility includes a futsal court on the below-ground floor, a cafe on the first floor, and a community children's center on the fourth floor that will provide integrated after-school child care services.
After the church service, Yoo presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon to mark the center's opening and toured the facility to review its overall condition.
"Religion contributes greatly to local communities, and the ninth elected-term administration is well aware of that importance," Yoo said. "We will actively support the administrative needs of religious organizations, including churches, through the newly established religious affairs team." He added that he hoped the Sungsan Dream Center would become "an open space that supports the healthy growth of children and fosters communication among residents, bringing warm vitality to the community."
