Behind every public figure's appearance lies a personal care routine. This series examines the diets, workouts, treatments, and beauty and fashion choices of notable figures as practical lifestyle information.
Singer Kwon Eun-bi shared her intensive pre-comeback routine — combining gym workouts with dermatology treatments — one week before her return. After waking up worried about facial puffiness, she headed to the gym, then underwent Onda and Sofwave procedures, expressing satisfaction with the results.
A vlog titled "Kwon Eun-bi's Intensive Care One Week Before Comeback" was posted Sunday to her YouTube channel "Kwon Eun-bi Kwon Eung-bi Gwo-neun-bi Gwo-nun-bi." Appearing bare-faced, Kwon said, "I'm really swollen. It's because I ate a lot and slept," before heading to the gym.
After finishing her personal training session, she said, "The puffiness seems to have gone down a bit compared to before," adding, "You have to consistently take care of yourself — either work out hard or keep up with dermatology visits. But at-home care is important too."
Puffiness gone after the gym — is it really the workout?
Facial puffiness in the morning is not uncommon. During sleep, fluid can temporarily accumulate in facial tissue, and the degree of swelling can vary depending on sleep duration, sleeping position, and salt intake from the previous day. The Cleveland Clinic notes that mild facial puffiness that appears right after waking and disappears within a few hours can be a normal result of overnight fluid retention.
After exercise, as the body warms up and perspires, the face may temporarily appear less puffy. However, this is not a change caused by a reduction in body fat over a short period. Rather than sweating excessively to reduce puffiness, consistent exercise, adequate hydration, and limiting overly salty foods are what matter most.
Strength training with a personal trainer, as Kwon does, can also support long-term body management. Applying repeated resistance to muscles helps maintain strength and muscle mass, and combining it with aerobic exercise can boost cardiovascular fitness and energy expenditure. That said, suddenly increasing workout intensity for short-term physical changes raises the risk of fatigue and injury, making it better to consistently continue one's usual exercise routine.
'A definite lifting effect' — how do Onda and Sofwave work?
After her workout, Kwon visited a dermatology clinic and said she would be receiving Onda and Sofwave treatments. After having Sofwave applied to one side of her face first, she said, "There's definitely an effect. There's a lifting effect." Once all her care was complete, she added, "The puffiness has gone down a lot compared to before. My skin has become smooth and clear too."
Onda and Sofwave are often grouped together with "laser lifting," but they work on different principles. Onda is not a laser device — it uses 2.45GHz microwave energy. According to manufacturer DEKA, it delivers heat to subcutaneous tissue using "Coolwave" energy and is used for skin tightening and contouring. The pocket handpiece of the Onda Pro, designed for smaller areas such as the face, is also built for lifting and tightening purposes.
Sofwave uses ultrasound energy. It delivers energy to the mid-dermis to create thermal coagulation points and stimulate collagen remodeling. The US Food and Drug Administration has cleared the Sofwave system as a focused ultrasound medical device that delivers heat to skin tissue, and according to the manufacturer, it is cleared for improving fine lines and lifting sagging tissue around the eyebrows, under the chin, and on the neck.
Both procedures are energy-based treatments that aim to improve skin elasticity and contour without incisions, but the degree and duration of results vary depending on skin thickness, the extent of sagging, fat volume, and the energy settings used. While some people, like Kwon, may notice changes immediately after a session, collagen remodeling-related improvements typically emerge over time, making it difficult to generalize the effectiveness of either treatment based on one person's immediate results.
After treatment, it is advisable to follow medical staff guidance, avoid irritating the skin, and pay attention to moisturizing and sun protection. Redness, swelling, and discomfort can occur, so choosing the right device and intensity for one's own skin type and facial structure is also important.
Kwon's pre-comeback regimen is less about a single dramatic transformation and more about sustaining a combination of exercise, dermatology treatments, and everyday care. Even with an important shoot or performance on the horizon, maintaining consistent habits around exercise, sleep, diet, and skin care is a more stable approach than crash dieting or cramming in multiple treatments at once.
