Netflix Japan has released a special feature video spotlighting actor Ha Young from the series "This Lousy Love," stirring controversy over its timing.

The release has drawn scrutiny because Ha Young recently issued a public apology over her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho's pro-Japanese collaboration — news that also circulated through Japanese media — making the timing of Netflix Japan's feature appear conspicuous.

Netflix Japan posted the roughly four-minute video on its official channel on Friday, titling it "Strong and Flexible Characters Who Live Life on Their Own Terms, as Played by Ha Young."

The video compiled highlights from Ha Young's Netflix appearances, featuring key scenes from her latest series "This Lousy Love" alongside earlier works including "Extraordinary Attorney Woo," "Monthly Magazine Home" and "True Education." The clips were selected to emphasize characters who are bold and self-directed.

Netflix Japan described Ha Young as "an actor whose confident presence leaves a lasting impression," adding that she "captivates people with the strength and flexibility to live life in her own way."

Some interpreted the video as Netflix Japan sending a message of support and encouragement to Ha Young amid the controversy over her family's pro-Japanese collaboration history.

Korean netizens responded with cynicism, posting comments such as "The timing is impeccable," "Are they trying to pick a fight with Korea?" "Typical creepy Japan" and "Japan is looking out for her."

The controversy began after Ha Young appeared on KBS 2TV's "Rooftop Troublemakers," which aired ahead of Liberation Day in August, and boasted about coming from "a family of doctors for four generations." The claim prompted scrutiny of her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho's pro-Japanese activities, drawing widespread backlash.
