Gwangju Bank Launches 'Wa Semiconductor Task Force'

Gwangju Bank officially launched the "Wa Semiconductor Task Force," a dedicated unit aimed at strengthening its financial support framework for the semiconductor industry in the southwestern region, the bank announced Tuesday.

The name combines the bank's brand identity "Wa" with the concept of a field-focused operational unit. The task force is intended to support efforts to develop a national semiconductor industrial complex in the Honam region.

The unit was established in line with the enforcement of the Special Act on Strengthening the Competitiveness of and Support for the Semiconductor Industry.

The task force will serve as an anchor bank for the semiconductor sector, building what the bank describes as a "community-rooted financial pipeline" that accompanies businesses from the initial development of the industrial complex through to corporate growth.

The bank also plans to minimize the outflow of policy funds and investment capital from the region and help foster a virtuous financial ecosystem that channels resources to local small and midsize suppliers.

"This is the first step toward supporting the successful development of the Honam semiconductor cluster," Gwangju Bank President Jeong Il-seon said. "We will continue to provide active financial support so that the semiconductor industry can establish itself as a new engine of growth."
