The National Assembly passed a partial amendment Thursday to the special act on guaranteeing the rights of victims of the Oct. 29 Itaewon crowd crush, establishing accountability and preventing recurrence. The amendment extends the mandate of the special investigation committee — tasked with determining the truth behind the disaster and preventing a repeat — by one year, setting the committee's activity period in law through Sept. 16, 2027.
The bill passed the plenary session with 220 votes in favor, five against and six abstentions, out of 231 members present.
