Gangnam-gu Hosts Annual 'Sodam Sodam Byeolbyeol Market' for Products Made by People With Disabilities

Gangnam-gu will hold its annual special sales fair for products made by people with disabilities — the "2026 Sodam Sodam Byeolbyeol Market," a fair showcasing goods made by workers with disabilities — in the first-floor lobby of the district office main building on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Sodam Sodam Byeolbyeol Market is one of Gangnam-gu's flagship disability facility support projects. The district has run the event under the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and the Special Act on Priority Purchase of Products Made by Persons with Severe Disabilities, aiming to expand social participation opportunities for people with severe disabilities in the district and provide sustainable income support.

The district has built a cooperative framework with nine vocational rehabilitation facilities in the area, including Milal Green Sheltered Workshop. Preparations were completed after two planning meetings held in August, during which the district helped coordinate product lineups and improve packaging.

On the day of the event, workers with disabilities will staff the sales booths themselves, sharing the fruits of their labor directly with visitors. Trainees at vocational adaptation training facilities — those preparing to transition to full worker status — will also participate, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Products on sale will include flowers, pop-up books and clothing; eco-friendly soaps, detergents and household goods; Yeoju rice; baked goods and confections; and coffee and beverages — all certified products made by people with severe disabilities, alongside a variety of holiday gift sets. Purchases can be made at on-site booths, and all proceeds will go toward wages and welfare benefits for the workers with disabilities.

For the first time, the event will also feature an art exhibition showcasing works by painters with disabilities. Sixteen pieces will be displayed with support from the Milal Culture and Arts Center, with the aim of improving public awareness of disability through high-quality artwork. Visitors can also look forward to a prize raffle and other entertainment.

"The Sodam Sodam Byeolbyeol Market, held every year, is a meaningful occasion where people with disabilities can personally introduce the products they have made with care and connect with residents," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said. "We will continue to do our utmost to strengthen the competitiveness of vocational rehabilitation facilities, expand public procurement, and build the foundation for independent living and welfare infrastructure for people with disabilities."
