Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-kyun conducted a safety inspection Saturday afternoon along the area stretching from Mapo Station to the Han River viewing zones ahead of the Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026.
Yoo walked the route from Boksakot Children's Park to Mapo Children's Park, checking pedestrian paths and park areas expected to draw large crowds, and reviewing crowd flow, safety personnel deployment and emergency response systems.
On the day of the main event, the district deployed 114 staff and safety personnel from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. to manage safety at seven locations, including Mapo Station and small parks along the Han River.
The district also stepped up monitoring at its disaster safety operations center and CCTV integrated control center, maintained emergency communication lines with police, fire department and other relevant agencies, and directed crowd control and dispersal efforts based on congestion levels.
In addition, the district cracked down on illegal parking, cleared street vendors and roadside obstructions, collected garbage and cleaned streets, and stationed ambulances and emergency medical teams on site to prepare for any medical emergencies.
"Since so many residents come out for this event, we must not overlook even the smallest safety risk," Yoo said, urging staff to "do their utmost on the ground so that visitors can enjoy the festival without inconvenience and return home safely."
