Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Sunday it launched multiple ballistic missiles at a US Navy aircraft carrier and a destroyer on Saturday (local time).
The IRGC said the warships, which it described as belonging to "the child-killing US Navy," had been interfering with Iranian vessels and participating in a maritime blockade. "After sustaining damage, they were forced to hastily retreat from the conflict zone out of fear of further strikes," the IRGC said.
The IRGC then said the aggressor, which it accused of wielding influence across the Middle East through "false arrogance and hollow claims," had no choice but to officially acknowledge being struck on Sunday. "This is living proof of the enemy's strategic defeat and a testament to the offensive capabilities of the Revolutionary Guard," it said.
The IRGC went on to say that if the United States continued its "aggressive and hostile actions," Iran's military would respond with a devastating counterattack.
Earlier, US Central Command said in a statement Saturday that US forces struck three Iranian crude oil tankers after the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy vessels patrolling the waterway, adding that the Iranian attack caused no damage to the American ships.
