Korean Air, Delta Air Lines paint murals in Seoul community service project

Korean Air and Delta Air Lines held a mural-painting volunteer event Friday afternoon at Seoul Namsan Elementary School in Jung-gu, Seoul, to improve the local environment, the two carriers announced Monday.

The event was organized to enhance the urban landscape around the school and help students and neighborhood residents enjoy a safer, more pleasant walk home. A total of 80 employees took part — 50 from Korean Air and 30 from Delta Air Lines. The local NGO Hansoop ("Together, One Forest") provided the mural designs and coordinated the event.

Before picking up their brushes, participants received a brief orientation and changed into work attire. Working from sketches featuring aircraft and major Seoul landmarks, they painted the previously drab walls surrounding the school, transforming them into bright, lively spaces.

"Korean Air and Delta Air Lines have built a close partnership over many years, which makes it all the more meaningful to share this warmth with the local community," said Jeong Ho-yoon, senior managing director of Korean Air's Pricing and Revenue Management division. "We will continue to work together on a variety of community initiatives that bring positive change."

Jeff Moomaw, Delta Air Lines' vice president for Asia-Pacific, said he found it rewarding to work alongside Korean Air employees on a project that would leave a lasting mark on the community. "We hope these murals will bring lasting brightness and positive energy to the daily lives of students, families and local residents for years to come," he added.

Since forming a transpacific joint venture in May 2018, Korean Air and Delta Air Lines have carried out a range of joint corporate social responsibility activities in keeping with their standing as global carriers, as part of their broader ESG commitments. Past initiatives include home-building projects with Habitat for Humanity, a housing volunteer drive in Los Angeles, tree-planting to combat desertification in Baganuur, Mongolia, and an environmental cleanup along the Han River in Yeouido, Seoul.

The two airlines have also been expanding passenger convenience, most recently extending their interline remote baggage search service to Seattle and Los Angeles — key US West Coast gateways — to streamline arrival and transit procedures.
