Seoul's integrated review committee granted conditional approval across six categories — architecture, landscape, traffic, education, parks and disaster prevention — paving the way for a residential complex of up to 35 floors and 1,515 units, with expanded pedestrian infrastructure and community facilities
Jungnang-gu announced that the Myeongmok Zone 7 private redevelopment project — a fast-track integrated planning initiative covering the area around 69-14 Myeongmokbon-dong — received conditional approval Thursday from the Seoul Metropolitan Government's integrated review committee for urban renewal projects, clearing reviews in six categories: architecture, landscape, traffic, education, parks and disaster prevention.
Myeongmok Zone 7 is a densely built neighborhood where most housing stock is more than 20 years old, and redevelopment efforts have been under way to improve living conditions. With the integrated review cleared, the project will deliver a residential complex of up to 35 above-ground floors and 1,515 units in total, of which 290 will be designated as public housing.
The district placed particular emphasis on improving pedestrian safety for residents and expanding the community facilities the area needs.
A public pedestrian pathway will be built through the complex to make it easier for residents to travel between nearby schools and Myeongmok Station. The district plans to improve the walking environment along Sangbong-ro 1-gil and Gyeomjae-ro 54-gil and connect them to surrounding roads so residents can move around safely.
Community facilities will also be expanded. Through public contributions, the project will provide a children's park, a neighborhood park, sports facilities, a social welfare center and a police substation. Neighborhood commercial facilities will be placed along Gyeomjae-ro 50-gil and Sangbong-ro to improve convenience for residents.
"We expect the Myeongmok Zone 7 redevelopment to bring new residential spaces and community infrastructure to the Myeongmokbon-dong area," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will continue to provide administrative support at the district level so that the redevelopment project residents have been hoping for can proceed smoothly."
