Nine traditional markets and neighborhood shopping streets across the district will hold chuseok events and discount promotions from Sept. 10 to 21, offering gift vouchers, prize draws and discounts on ritual food items.
Yangcheon-gu will hold a "Chuseok Traditional Market Event" at traditional markets and neighborhood shopping streets across the district to ease residents' shopping burden and inject vitality into local commerce ahead of the chuseok holiday.
The events run from Sept. 10 to 21 at nine venues — including Gyeongchang Market, Sinyeong Market, Omokgyo Jungang Market, Mokdong Kkabbi Market and the Seo-Seoul and Mok 3-dong neighborhood shopping streets — with each venue following its own schedule. Programs tailored to each market's character include discounts on ritual food items, Onuri gift voucher and market coupon rebates, traditional games and prize events.
Among the traditional markets, Mokdong Kkabbi Market kicks off the series Thursday and Friday, offering a 5,000-won Onuri gift voucher rebate to customers who spend 20,000 won ($15) or more. Gyeongchang Market will give a 5,000-won Onuri gift voucher to shoppers spending 30,000 won or more from Monday through Wednesday, while Omokgyo Jungang Market will hand out a 10,000-won market coupon to those spending 40,000 won or more on Tuesday.
At Sinyeong Market, customers who spend 30,000 won or more and bring a shopping coupon will be eligible for a prize giveaway, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Neighborhood shopping streets will also offer rebates based on purchase amounts. Sinwol 7-dong (Friday), Sinwol 4-dong Meokja Alley (Sept. 16-17) and Mok 3-dong (Sept. 17) will each provide Onuri gift voucher rebates worth 10,000 to 30,000 won depending on how much customers spend.
Alongside this, the Seo-Seoul neighborhood shopping street on Sept. 17 and the Sinwol 3-dong neighborhood shopping street on Sept. 18 will give out 10,000-won market coupons to customers spending 30,000 won or more.
Beyond the rebate programs, each market and shopping street will offer additional activities suited to its own character, including discounts on ritual food items, traditional games, cultural performances and free giveaways to make shopping more enjoyable. Detailed operating hours and event information for each venue are available on the Yangcheon-gu website's notice board or by contacting the district's Employment and Economy Division.
"We have prepared a variety of events to give residents who feel burdened by holiday preparations amid high prices a chance to shop smartly, while also bringing energy to traditional markets and neighborhood commercial areas," District Mayor Lee Ki-jae said. "We hope residents will prepare for a happy and frugal chuseok at their neighborhood traditional markets, where warm hospitality and generous benefits await."
