Online and in-person events invite audiences to relive 15 years of performances and special moments, with prizes for the oldest ticket stubs and most cherished stories
The Gangdong Cultural Foundation will hold a series of online and in-person audience participation events from Wednesday through the end of December to mark the 15th anniversary of Gangdong Arts Center.
Since opening on Sept. 1, 2011, Gangdong Arts Center has established itself as a leading multipurpose cultural venue in southeastern Seoul, offering performances, exhibitions and arts education programs centered on its main hall Han River, the small theater Dream and the art gallery Geurim. To mark its 15th anniversary, the center — which has long pursued a vision of a public theater where nature and art coexist — is creating a space for audiences to share the performances and special moments they have carried with them over the years.
At the main Han River hall, the center will set up a 15th-anniversary photo wall and run an audience participation program called "Our Greatest Scenes." Visitors can write anniversary messages or performance memories on cards, then attach them to the photo wall alongside instant photos taken on-site.
As audience stories and photos accumulate, the photo wall will grow into a living record of the center's past 15 years and the years ahead. The event runs from Wednesday through December for audiences attending programmed performances, and standout contributors whose messages and photos best capture the spirit of the anniversary will be selected each month.
Online, the foundation will run a campaign called "Find the Best Ticket, Find the Memory!" through its official Instagram account. Participants share on their personal Instagram pages a Gangdong Arts Center ticket they have kept, a photo taken at the center and the story behind it — a collective look back at 15 years of memories.
The "Find the Best Ticket!" segment searches for the oldest Gangdong Arts Center performance ticket still in an audience member's possession. Entries are ranked by the performance date printed on the ticket, with weekly standings posted publicly before final rankings are determined.
"Find the Best Memory!" invites submissions of photos and stories from the center's history — from the anticipation of waiting for a show to begin, to outings with family and friends, to any memorable moment experienced at the venue. Outstanding entries will be selected in October and November, and winners will receive prizes including department store gift certificates and tickets to programmed performances.
Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said the center's 15 years had been built on the support and attention of every audience member who came through its doors. "I hope this event gives audiences a chance to share the precious memories they have held onto, and that it becomes an opportunity to continue their special connection with Gangdong Arts Center," she said.
