Polestar unveils 'Formula 2030' concept car, previewing next-gen Polestar 2 and 7

Swedish premium electric vehicle brand Polestar announced Tuesday it has unveiled the Formula 2030 concept car, a design study that charts the brand's future direction.

Developed as part of Polestar's "2030 Strategy" targeting sustained business growth and profitability, the concept reinforces the brand's core values of performance, innovative technology and sustainability while presenting its design vision.

The Formula 2030 concept previews design elements that will carry over to the new Polestar 2, due in 2027, and the forthcoming Polestar 7, placing greater emphasis on the brand's performance identity. The design team, led by Design Chief Philip Römers, evolved Polestar's existing Scandinavian design language, addressing exterior and interior design as well as material innovation and sustainability.

"Because Polestar already has a strong design and brand identity, we felt that what was needed was a bold evolution rather than a revolution that throws everything out," Römers said. "The Formula 2030 concept car shows the future of Polestar while carrying forward iconic design elements such as the dual-blade headlights."

The concept car will be shown first to investors, retailers and select VIP customers at a Formula 2030 strategy event held at "The Cube" inside Polestar's headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.

A global media reveal is planned for October at the Polestar 4 SUV media drive in Ascari, Spain.

The Polestar 4 SUV was developed from the existing Polestar 4 coupe to broaden customer choice. It adds flexible storage solutions suited to a variety of situations, enhancing versatility and practicality while retaining the coupe's design, performance and sustainability credentials.

The Polestar 4 SUV will be produced in Busan and is expected to be available for order in most markets where Polestar operates. Sales began Wednesday, though a launch date for South Korea has not yet been set.
