Woo Sang-ho visits Wonju innovation city, vows to boost regional growth, living conditions

Gangwon Gov. Woo Sang-ho said Thursday that he would work to improve living conditions so that employees and families of public institutions in the innovation city can settle securely in Gangwon Province.

Woo made the remarks while presiding over a meeting at the Gangwon Innovation City Development Support Center aimed at strengthening regional development and cooperation. The meeting was attended by Wonju Mayor Koo Ja-yeol and heads of 12 public institutions based in the innovation city.

"Public institutions are not simply organizations located in Gangwon Province — they are steadfast partners helping to shape the region's growth and change together," Woo said. "I ask that each institution pool its expertise and capabilities so that they can translate into growth for local talent and businesses, and ultimately into industrial development for Gangwon."

He added, "The public institutions in the innovation city, Gangwon Province and Wonju will continue working together as one team for regional development."

The meeting was arranged to strengthen communication between the province, Wonju and public institutions in the innovation city. It also aimed to explore ways for the region and the institutions to grow together, including by channeling the institutions' expertise and capabilities into nurturing local talent and growing local industries.

Participants shared each institution's cooperation activities and major issues, exploring possible solutions. They also discussed practical cooperation tasks and proposals, including nurturing and hiring local talent, supporting local businesses and boosting purchases of local products, and tailored social contribution programs.

Gangwon Province plans to keep working with Wonju and the public institutions to identify and pursue tasks that support the growth of local talent and businesses.
