Gyeongsan to run chuseok safety and welfare measures through Sept. 27

Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, announced Saturday it will carry out a comprehensive chuseok holiday plan to help residents and returning visitors enjoy a safe and comfortable holiday season.

The plan covers 37 detailed measures across four areas — public safety, the local economy, resident convenience and livelihood stability — and will run through Sept. 27, the last day of the holiday period.

The city will operate a central situation room organized into 11 teams across three fields. A total of 100 staff members, 25 per day over four days, will monitor conditions in each area and respond quickly to emergencies and public complaints.

Safety inspections will be conducted at 10 major facilities, including large retail stores and traditional markets, as well as key business sites. The city will also prepare traffic restriction measures in advance for 27 major road facilities as a precaution against heavy rainfall.

To ease the financial burden on households amid rising prices, the city will conduct ongoing monitoring of 20 major chuseok staple goods and carry out guidance activities to maintain fair trade practices.

A traffic management team will operate throughout the holiday to assist returning visitors. Three temporary parking lots with a combined capacity of 950 vehicles will be set up near cemetery parks to prevent congestion caused by visitors paying their respects at gravesites.

To minimize gaps in medical services during the holiday, the city's public health centers will run emergency medical response teams. Two regional emergency medical institutions will maintain 24-hour emergency care, while 37 clinics and hospitals and 47 pharmacies will open on a designated schedule throughout the holiday period.

"We will meticulously carry out sector-by-sector measures so that both residents and those returning home for the holiday can enjoy a safe and warm chuseok," Gyeongsan Mayor Jo Hyeon-il said. "We will do our best not only to stabilize holiday prices and resolve everyday inconveniences, but also to look after our neighbors in need."
