Mother, toddler in cardiac arrest after family of 3 falls into sea off Jindo

A family of three fell into the sea near the Mysterious Sea Road in Uisin-myeon, Jindo-gun, South Jeolla Province, on Saturday.

According to Yonhap, the incident occurred at around 1:51 p.m. Saturday near the Mysterious Sea Road. A 3-year-old boy and his mother were transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest.

A second child, a 6-year-old boy, was rescued with symptoms of hypothermia.

Coast guard officials believe the two boys fell into the water first, and their mother entered the sea in an attempt to save them before becoming caught in the accident herself.

Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, which is believed to have occurred while the family was swimming.
