Yecheon-gun wraps up 2026 GREEN Festa with 500 residents

Yecheon-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Saturday that the 2026 GREEN Festa, held along the Walkable Street area in Sanhap-ri, Homyeong-eup, concluded successfully with more than 500 residents taking part.

The event featured nine booths in total, including three operated by environmental organizations, covering topics such as resource recycling, biodiversity, upcycling, plastic-free living, eco-friendly lifestyles and waste sorting — all presented in an accessible and engaging format.

Along a roughly 900-meter stretch, families took part in a plogging run — jogging while picking up litter — putting environmental protection into practice in their daily lives. A children's environmental art exhibition and awards ceremony were also held, giving young participants a chance to share their vision of nature and the future.

"GREEN 7 Towers," representing seven environmental values, served as a photo zone tied to hands-on activity programs, giving the festival a symbolic centerpiece. A time-capsule sealing ceremony, in which participating children wrote down their pledges and hopes for the environment, added further meaning to the event.

"The power to protect the environment begins not with grand slogans but with small actions in everyday life," Yecheon County Mayor An Byeong-yun said. "We will continue offering a variety of practical programs so that anyone can easily and enjoyably take part in eco-friendly living."
