Daegu names former Seo-gu deputy district mayor to head public facilities corporation

Daegu city announced Sunday that it has named Seong Ung-gyeong, a former deputy district mayor of Seo-gu, as incoming head of the Daegu Public Facilities Management Corporation, the agency responsible for resident safety and daily services under the ninth directly elected city administration.

The city began forming the corporation's executive recommendation committee in early July and carried out a series of selection procedures, including open recruitment, document screening and interviews.

After a second round of recruitment to find the most qualified candidate, the corporation recommended two finalists to the city for the top post.

Seong graduated from Kyungpook National University with a degree in genetic engineering and earned a master's degree in policy studies from the KDI School of Public Policy and Management.

He entered public service in 1998 through the third local administrative examination and has since held a range of senior posts, including head of Daegu's industrial sites division, head of the economic policy division, economic planning officer, consul at the South Korean Consulate General in Qingdao under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acting head of the public safety office, director of the green environment bureau, vice president of the Daegu Policy Research Institute, and deputy district mayor of both Suseong-gu and Seo-gu.

Over more than 30 years with the city, Seong led key policy initiatives to strengthen the local economy and industrial competitiveness, including securing Daegu's first national industrial complex designation, winning approval for the Daegu Grand Park development project, and spearheading industrial complex regeneration and star-company development programs.

Daegu city plans to formally appoint Seong in early December, pending a background check and a confirmation hearing before the city council.
