'No coding skills needed': LG Display accelerates company-wide AI transformation

LG Display is accelerating its company-wide AI transformation by expanding its "AX Squad," a program that enables employees across all departments to use AI to solve real workplace problems on their own.

The AX Squad is a hands-on initiative in which frontline staff from each business unit identify problems or repetitive tasks in their daily work, define them as AI projects, and develop solutions using AI tools.

All employees — from office workers to engineers and production staff — are eligible to participate, with AI specialists from the company's AX Group serving as coaches. The program combines employees' deep understanding of their own work with the technical expertise of AI professionals to produce results that can be applied directly on the job.

Every division at LG Display is now taking part in the AX Squad, with cumulative projects totaling more than 450. Of those, roughly 190 have been automated — including a defect-classification tool for manufacturing, an optical simulation tool for development, and an employee survey system for human resources.

Applications built by employees are listed on an internal app marketplace called Hi-D Agent Hub, where colleagues can download and use them in their own work. Hi-D Agent Hub itself was also built by employees. The initiative reflects a broader shift in how companies use AI — moving beyond simple generative AI tools toward a model where frontline workers build their own workplace applications.

Vibe coding is already being applied across a range of functions. In recruitment, the company's operations team, AX organization and LG CNS jointly revamped the existing LGenius portal using the vibe coding approach. The HR development platform HRD.COM was also rebuilt as a vibe coding project, departing from conventional development methods. In procurement, AX team members built a supplier information website from scratch, and employees created an application and tool-sharing platform to circulate AX outputs across the company.

LG Display has been running an AX training curriculum for all employees since last year, covering vibe coding and related skills. To protect internal data, the company also developed its own vibe coding agent, Hi-D Code, rather than relying on external tools. Having started its AI transformation last year with a focus on manufacturing and development, the company has expanded the program since the second half of this year to non-manufacturing and non-development functions — including procurement and supply chain, customer support, finance and management, and sales and marketing.

"The AX Squad is a company-wide AI innovation framework in which employees — who previously played only a passive role as AI users — now take part in everything from defining projects to executing them," an LG Display official said. "We will accelerate our transition into a technology-driven company through workplace innovation and AI internalization that involves every employee."
