65th Chilgok County Sports Festival draws 8,000 residents in celebration of community

North Gyeongsang Province's Chilgok-gun held the 65th Chilgok County Sports Festival on Saturday at Chilgok General Stadium, drawing more than 8,000 residents.

Now in its 65th year, the festival brought together residents from the county's eight towns and townships to share camaraderie and enjoy the day as neighbors.

Chilgok County Mayor Kim Jae-wook, Assembly member Jeong Hee-yong, Chilgok County Sports Association President Lee Seung-ho, and provincial and county council members attended the event.

This year's program was particularly notable for its "merry sports day" format, featuring team-based events such as parachute relay races, cooperative balloon-tower stacking, team volleyball and park golf dart putting — drawing laughter and cheers from across the stadium.

Events for residents aged 65 and older, including a high-shooting game and gateball, were also held, reinforcing the festival's spirit of bringing together participants from children to seniors across generations.

The day opened with a traditional music and dance performance by the Chilgok Traditional Culture and Arts Troupe, followed by a parade of athletes, an opening ceremony, a Rainbow cheerleading performance and competition events.

In the afternoon, residents from the towns and townships took to the stage for a singing contest, a lucky-draw raffle and a celebratory concert featuring singer Eun Ga-eun, among others.

"We prepared the festival so that residents could make good memories together while enjoying each other's company," Sports Association President Lee said. "Thanks to everyone coming together with one heart, we were able to bring the 65th County Sports Festival to a successful close."

County Mayor Kim said the sight of residents from all eight towns and townships gathered in one place — running, cheering and laughing together — was the greatest meaning of the festival. "I hope the laughter and warmth shared today will become a force that brings our Chilgok even closer together," he said.
