Goyang Special City announced Monday that it will open public parking lots across the city free of charge during the Chuseok holiday period to ease the parking burden on residents and returning travelers.
The free parking will be available at 110 locations from Sept. 24 to Sept. 27. The lots include 72 off-street facilities, 17 on-street spaces and 21 ancillary lots attached to public facilities such as city and district offices. However, the on-street parking zone 6 in Janghang-dong will be open free of charge for two days only, from Sept. 25 to Sept. 26.
The city said it will operate a 24-hour integrated parking call center throughout the holiday period to handle any inconveniences as usage is expected to rise. The city also cautioned that some lots will not have on-site staff during the holiday, and urged drivers to keep valuables out of sight and take care of their vehicles.
"Vehicle traffic increases significantly during the Chuseok holiday as people travel home and visit family, so we are opening public parking lots free of charge to ease residents' parking concerns even a little," Goyang Special City Mayor Min Kyung-sun said. "We hope all residents and visitors enjoy a comfortable and joyful Chuseok."
