Samsung Heavy Industries to showcase FLNG capabilities at Gastech 2026

Samsung Heavy Industries said it will participate in Gastech 2026, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from Monday through Thursday, under the slogan "Charting the Voyage of Energy."

The company's top executives will attend, including Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Choi Sung-an and Lee Wang-geun, head of the shipbuilding and offshore division.

At this year's event, Samsung Heavy Industries will secure certification for its floating LNG production facility (FLNG) design capabilities, accelerating its push to build a decisive competitive edge.

On Tuesday, the company will receive approval in principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Lloyd's Register (LR) for a conceptual design applying its independently developed natural gas liquefaction system, SENSE, to FLNG topside facilities. ABS will also grant basic design review (BDR) certification.

Samsung Heavy Industries will also sign an MOU with Gastech Engineering, a domestic offshore plant engineering firm, to launch the first licensing commercialization of SENSE. The certifications establish the foundation for applying SENSE to FLNG projects.

The company will secure several additional certifications for gas carrier technology. On Monday, Korean Register (KR) will certify a structural integrity assessment — based on engineering critical assessment (ECA) methodology and reflecting actual operating conditions — for large Type-C independent tanks. On Wednesday, Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Norway will grant AiP for a composite support structure for storage tanks on very large gas and ammonia carriers.

Samsung Heavy Industries will also sign a professional services agreement (PSA) with JERA Americas on Tuesday for a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) project off the coast of Hawaii, and will conclude an MOU on Wednesday with LNG development company Fulcrum LNG to jointly target FLNG markets across five regions worldwide.

"Samsung Heavy Industries will continue to expand cooperation with global companies based on the LNG value chain, including FLNG, and lead the market," Choi said.

Meanwhile, Gastech is the world's largest energy exhibition, covering technologies spanning natural gas, LNG, low-carbon solutions, hydrogen and AI. Now in its 37th edition, this year's event is expected to draw more than 1,000 companies and over 50,000 visitors from around the world.
