Busan childcare association donates W40m for overseas disaster relief

Busan city held a relief fund donation ceremony Monday morning at the protocol hall of City Hall.

The event, organized by the Busan Metropolitan Childcare Association to support recovery efforts for those affected by a major earthquake in Venezuela and flooding in Nepal, was attended by Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo, Busan Metropolitan Childcare Association President Park Ki-nam and Korean Red Cross Busan Chapter Vice President Jo Hyeon-suk.

The association donated 40 million won ($29,700) to aid disaster recovery and support for displaced residents affected by the Venezuela earthquake and Nepal floods.

The funds were raised through voluntary contributions from children enrolled at member daycare centers, their parents, and childcare staff. The full amount will be channeled through the Korean Red Cross Busan Chapter to support local relief operations, recovery work and assistance for displaced residents.

Following the donation ceremony, the Busan Metropolitan Childcare Association also held a safety awareness challenge.

"Through this donation, I was again reminded that compassion for our neighbors knows no borders," Mayor Jeon said. "I hope this small act of sharing brings great comfort and hope to those displaced on the other side of the world, and that the affected communities can return to peaceful daily lives as soon as possible."
