3 Daegu Catholic University grad students win national research grants simultaneously

Three graduate students from the Software Systems Laboratory in the Department of Computer Software at Daegu Catholic University have been selected for the Korea Research Foundation's 2026 Research Encouragement Grant program for science and engineering, the university announced Monday.

The recipients are doctoral student Moon Ji-won and master's students Bae Gyeong-min and Im Chan-a.

The three will receive a combined 74 million won ($55,000) in national research funding to conduct studies in autonomous driving and computing resource management.

The Research Encouragement Grant program supports science and engineering graduate students in carrying out independent research as principal investigators.

Moon will research techniques for efficiently allocating idle computing resources whose availability fluctuates unpredictably.

Bae will develop technology that allows autonomous mobile robots to navigate stably in complex environments by dynamically adjusting control methods based on situational conditions.

Im will study ways to isolate execution environments and allocate computing resources according to workload characteristics within an on-premises Kubernetes environment.

"Now that a foundation has been laid for students to focus on their research, I will guide them so that each of their projects leads to meaningful results," said Professor Jeon Su-bin.
