BGF Retail completes Busan logistics center, capping W260b investment

BGF Retail held a completion ceremony Wednesday afternoon at its newly built logistics center in Gangseo-gu, Busan. About 100 people attended, including Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo, BGF Group Chairman Hong Seok-jo, Vice Chairman Hong Jeong-guk, Gangseo-gu District Mayor Park Sang-jun and Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority head Park Seong-ho.

BGF Retail operates the CU convenience store chain, with roughly 18,000 franchised outlets. The company posted consolidated revenue of 9.06 trillion won ($6.7 billion) in 2025 and has been expanding overseas into Hawaii, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and other markets.

The project traces its origins to 2021, when Busan city secured BGF Retail's investment commitment. Construction began in 2024 and was completed after two years of work.

BGF Retail invested 260 billion won to build the center on a site of about 47,000 square meters, with a total floor area of roughly 127,000 square meters across one below-ground and four above-ground floors. It is the largest logistics facility BGF Retail owns and the largest single investment in the domestic convenience store industry.

The Busan logistics center will serve a dual role: functioning as a second central distribution hub supplying products nationwide and as a regional gateway logistics center, while also acting as an export-import base linked to Busan New Port.

The facility is equipped with automated systems to reduce physically demanding tasks and improve worker safety, and features rooftop solar power generation and other eco-friendly infrastructure to enable low-carbon logistics operations. BGF Retail recently became the first domestic convenience store operator to enter Hawaii and surpassed 800 overseas locations. The company plans to use the center as a forward base supporting its global expansion.

Busan city said it expects the completion of the logistics center — the result of the large-scale investment it attracted in 2021 — to invigorate the local economy, create jobs and strengthen the city's competitiveness in the logistics industry.
