Anchor project unit recruits 20 students for first cohort of integrated care supporters
The GUCARE Center at Gwangju University's anchor project unit is recruiting students for its first cohort of integrated care supporters, a program aimed at checking on elderly residents and reducing gaps in care coverage.
The integrated care supporters program operates in partnership with the Gwangju Ansim Care Center. Participants make weekly welfare check calls to elderly people living alone after their formal care services have ended, and visit them in person when needed to assess their overall living conditions.
The program is open to 20 currently enrolled Gwangju University students regardless of department, year or major. Students without prior experience can still apply, as professional training will be provided before they begin. Applications are accepted online from Wednesday through Oct. 12, with results announced to individual applicants on Oct. 13.
Selected supporters will take part in five activity sessions and two training sessions over three months, from October through December. Each student will be assigned two elderly individuals to call, and when in-person visits are needed, students will go in pairs alongside a center manager to check on meals, medication and residential safety.
"A single welfare check call can be the strength that gets someone through the day," the GUCARE Center said. "We hope this becomes an opportunity for students to experience community care firsthand and grow alongside their neighbors."
