Finance committee to hold separate closed briefing same day
Energy projects including nuclear plants, LNG development under review
The National Assembly's Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee will receive a closed-door briefing from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Tuesday on South Korea-US negotiations and the first projects under the country's US investment plan.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is scheduled to brief the committee at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the National Assembly, according to political sources Sunday.
The Finance and Economy Planning Committee is also in discussions to receive a closed-door briefing the same day. Scheduling is being coordinated around the trade committee's session.
The ministry had originally planned to brief both committees on Thursday but postponed the session once after negotiations with the United States were not concluded in time.
The upcoming briefing is expected to lay out more specific details on the first projects under the $350 billion US investment plan and how funding will be allocated. Key items are expected to include which of three major energy projects will receive funding and in what amounts — the construction of a gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Encinal, Texas, a large-scale nuclear power plant, and an Alaska liquefied natural gas development project.
