154 staff will work around-the-clock shifts from Wednesday through Monday to prevent disaster and medical service gaps and strengthen tailored support for vulnerable residents
Seoul's Gangdong-gu will run a comprehensive chuseok holiday plan from Wednesday through Monday to help residents enjoy a safe and comfortable holiday.
The plan covers 19 specific measures across four areas closely tied to residents' daily lives: livelihoods, safety and general living conditions. A central situation room and seven sector-specific situation rooms will operate throughout the period, with 154 staff working day and night shifts to respond quickly to any incidents.
On the livelihood front, the district will step up tailored support for vulnerable residents. Food items donated through a chuseok food-sharing drive will be distributed to food bank users and those seeking emergency relief, with basic groceries also provided through a free-sharing support program. The number of subsidized senior dining halls for low-income elderly residents will be expanded to six, and dosirak and side-dish delivery services will also run. Alongside this, the district will inspect prices and country-of-origin labeling for chuseok seasonal goods and support discount and cashback events at traditional markets and neighborhood shopping streets.
On the safety front, a 24-hour disaster safety situation room will remain active, with emergency response systems in place for floods, heat waves and fires. Pre-emptive safety inspections will cover sewage facilities, flood-prone areas, roads, construction sites and high-traffic public venues. Health center consultation teams and treatment rooms will operate during the holiday, and information on open clinics and pharmacies will be made available to minimize gaps in medical services.
For daily living, seven school and public parking lots will open free of charge from Thursday through Saturday, and last-train and late-night bus services will be extended from Saturday through Sunday. A traffic situation room and enforcement teams will manage illegal parking in congested areas. A sanitation situation room will handle waste-related complaints during the holiday, with a major cleanup drive to follow afterward. At the Amsa-dong prehistoric settlement site in Seoul, traditional games including tuho (arrow-throwing), yutnori and jegi-chagi will be available from Thursday through Sunday.
Unmanned civil service kiosks across the district will also remain in operation.
"We have prepared measures to look after neighbors in need and to protect residents' safety and daily lives during the holiday," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "We will do our best to keep the emergency response system running smoothly throughout the holiday so that residents can enjoy chuseok without worry."
