DGIST science creativity school opens applications for 2027 academic year

The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology announced Monday that its science creativity school will accept applications for 40 new students for the 2027 academic year from Oct. 19 through Nov. 20.

The DGIST science creativity school is a science talent development program, supported by Dalseong-gun, that provides high-level mathematics and science education to local elementary and middle school students.

Application fees and tuition are fully waived.

Applicants must be enrolled as sixth-grade elementary school students or first-year middle school students at a school in Dalseong-gun at the time of application.

Sixth graders may apply for the middle school foundational course, while first-year middle school students may apply for the middle school advanced course. Each course covers four fields — mathematics, physics, chemistry and life sciences — with approximately five students selected per field and about 20 per course, for a total of 40 students.

Applicants may choose only one field. The integrated mathematics and integrated science courses previously offered for elementary school students will not be held separately this year.

An official at DGIST's Convergence Education Institute said the program is designed to help students in Dalseong-gun access high-quality mathematics and science education in their own community and discover their potential. "We will make full use of DGIST's outstanding education and research infrastructure to systematically support students in growing into future science and technology talent," the official said.

Two admissions information sessions for prospective 2027 applicants are scheduled — at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in the international conference hall of DGIST's Research Administration Building (R1), and at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at the main auditorium of the Daegu Scale-up Hub (DASH).
