Gangwon Province joins labor education network led by national training institute

The Korea Employment and Labor Education Institute is moving to build a region-specific labor education cooperation framework in Gangwon Province, bringing together local labor and management groups, the provincial government and labor administration agencies.

The institute announced Monday that it will hold a "Gangwon Regional Labor Education Council Meeting" on Tuesday, with participation from labor and management organizations in Gangwon Province, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province government, the Ministry of Employment and Labor's Gangwon branch office and the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education.

The meeting is being held to establish a regional labor education cooperation framework by linking the institute's "Employment and Labor Education 2.0" strategy with its initiative to promote cooperation among regional labor-management-government councils.

Participants will share key regional labor issues and on-site education needs, then discuss educational priorities and inter-agency cooperation — covering labor management education for small and micro-business owners, labor-management conflict prevention education, industrial safety education and rights education for vulnerable workers.

The institute plans to develop and provide tailored educational content by life stage, and to support the training of specialist instructors and the operation of curricula. It will also focus on delivering labor law education to small and micro-business owners who lack dedicated human resources and labor management personnel.

Earlier, the institute accepted applications from labor-management-government councils across all 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide and decided to establish and operate labor education subcommittees in nine regions. The Gangwon meeting is the fifth regional labor education council meeting to be held, following those in South Jeolla Province, Gwangju, South Chungcheong Province and Gyeonggi Province.

Through "Employment and Labor Education 2.0," the institute is pursuing the expansion of lifelong labor education, the strengthening of core competencies for labor-management and social dialogue, the development of employment and labor administration experts, and the reinforcement of its role as a national hub for labor education.

Kim Jong-cheol, vice president of the Korea Employment and Labor Education Institute, said the institute would "support the spread of tailored labor education programs led by regional labor-management-government councils to workplaces on the ground, through cooperation among Gangwon's labor and management organizations, local government, labor administration agencies and the provincial office of education."
