The Jayang 15th Street alley festival runs Friday, followed by the Jayang Galbi Alley outdoor festival on Saturday — featuring food booths, invited performances, a residents' singing contest and prize giveaways.
Gwangjin-gu will host back-to-back alley festivals Friday and Saturday at the Jayang 15th Street and Jayang Beongyeongno alley shopping districts to help revitalize local commerce.
The Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation's Gwangjin General Support Center and the merchant associations of the two districts are organizing the events. They are designed to showcase each area's distinct character and create a lively alley shopping scene where merchants and residents can come together.
The first event, the "15Ya Alley Festival," takes place Friday along Jayang-ro 15-gil (Nos. 14–74) in the Jayang 15th Street alley shopping district.
Food booths will offer draft beer and signature dishes from participating shops. The main stage will feature recreational activities and a residents' singing contest, followed by performances by invited singers, while street busking will take place in a separate area. Prize giveaways and a photo zone are among the other programs planned for visitors.
The following day, the "Jayang Galbi Alley Outdoor Festival" will be held along Jayang Beongyeongno (the right-side sidewalk section, Nos. 14–32) in the Jayang Beongyeongno alley shopping district.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of food and beer reflecting the area's signature galbi culture. Invited singer performances, recreational activities and street busking are also on the program. Customers who spend 50,000 won ($37) or more at participating shops on the day of the event will receive a 10,000 won Onuri gift voucher as a cashback reward.
Gwangjin-gu has been working to strengthen its alley shopping districts, newly designating eight this year. The district now has 17 designated alley shopping districts in total, including Jayang 15th Street and Jayang Beongyeongno, and actively supports merchants in joining the Onuri gift voucher network and taking part in various assistance programs.
"I hope these festivals will help each district showcase its own personality and charm, and breathe new energy into our alley commerce," Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said. "We will continue working to build competitive alley shopping districts where merchants and residents grow together."
