Six North Gyeongsang cities to host Baekdudaegan trekking challenge, with Ulleungdo trip up for grabs

A large-scale trekking event is set to unfold across the natural landscapes of North Gyeongsang Province's Baekdudaegan mountain range.

Travel agency Seungwoo Travel announced Monday that it is recruiting second-half participants for the "2026 North Gyeongsang Baekdudaegan Trail 6 Challenge," organized together with North Gyeongsang Province and the North Gyeongsang Culture and Tourism Corporation. The organizers have also arranged a Seonginbong Peak tour event on Ulleungdo for participants.

The North Gyeongsang Baekdudaegan Trail 6 Challenge is a trekking event held across six rounds, set against the forests and natural scenery of the Baekdudaegan range spanning Gimcheon, Yeongju, Sangju, Mungyeong, Yecheon and Bonghwa. Now in its second year, the event is co-hosted by the six cities and counties of Sangju, Gimcheon, Mungyeong, Bonghwa, Yeongju and Yecheon, organized by the North Gyeongsang Culture and Tourism Corporation, and operated by Seungwoo Travel.

The series kicked off in Sangju on June 20 and continues with legs in Gimcheon on Saturday, Mungyeong on Oct. 3, Bonghwa on Oct. 10, Yeongju on Oct. 24 and Yecheon on Oct. 31. A total of 12 courses have been designed, split into beginner-to-intermediate and advanced tracks for each location. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, bandana and local specialty snacks. Those who complete all six courses will also receive a commemorative medal.

A Seonginbong Peak tour on Ulleungdo has also been arranged for challenge participants. Eligibility for the draw is open to those who complete four or more of the six legs. Entry tickets are awarded on a tiered basis: one ticket for four participations, two for five, and three for completing all six rounds. Ten winners selected by draw will receive the chance to trek Seonginbong Peak on Ulleungdo alongside fellow challengers.

"Five more challenges remain after the Sangju opener on June 20," an event official said. "We hope participants will find value in the spirit of challenge and healing through the North Gyeongsang Baekdudaegan Challenge, and go on to create new moments of rest and special memories on Ulleungdo."
