Kim Da-hyun's father reveals she sobbed after Shim Su-bong's public criticism

The father of singer Kim Da-hyun has revealed that his daughter broke down in tears after seeing veteran singer Shim Su-bong's public criticism of her.

In an exclusive interview published Sunday, Kim Bong-gon said he had received an apology from Shim's side and recounted what happened that day.

Kim said his daughter had finished the opening set and left the stage just as Shim was heading up, meaning the two never crossed paths. He said Kim Da-hyun only came across the remarks while monitoring the performance from a car.

"Da-hyun looked startled in the car," he said. "Her mother noticed first and asked what was wrong. At first she just looked deflated and said 'it's nothing.' When we asked again, she showed us the video and burst into tears."

Kim said his daughter had long admired Shim and had even played piano and sung Shim's song "A Million Roses" at a concert. "I don't know whether this will leave a bigger scar or end up making her stronger, but as a parent, of course it hurt," he said.

The incident stems from remarks Shim made Sunday at the 10th Jinan Highland Trot Festival in Jinan-gun, North Jeolla Province, where she referred to Kim Da-hyun as "the woman who sang before me" and said she appeared to be "a young lady who doesn't seem to know what singing or life is about."

After the remarks drew widespread criticism, Shim issued an apology through her agency, acknowledging that it was "clearly wrong" of her, as an elder, to have said something that hurt a fellow singer.
