Free Safety Checks for Hydrogen and Electric Vehicles This Chuseok Holiday

Emergency roadside calls caused by vehicle breakdowns during last year's Chuseok holiday totaled 39,286 cases.

This year's holiday window is particularly short, meaning heavier traffic concentration is expected. Even minor breakdowns can slow or block lanes, worsening congestion, and sudden deceleration or stops raise the risk of rear-end collisions — making pre-trip vehicle checks all the more important.

Seoul Energy Corporation teamed up with Hyundai Motor Company to offer free safety inspections for hydrogen and electric vehicle customers visiting Yangjae Green Car Station on Monday, ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

The initiative aims to detect potential vehicle faults before long-distance holiday travel, helping prevent accidents and allowing residents to set off on their homeward journeys more safely and comfortably.

Seoul Energy Corporation has partnered with Hyundai Motor Company since 2024 to provide complimentary safety checks for hydrogen and electric vehicle customers using Yangjae Green Car Station.

On Monday, Hyundai Motor Company's specialist technicians connected onboard diagnostic devices to vehicles to read fault codes stored in the electronic control units and verify the operating status of key systems. They then conducted detailed checks of major components, including the hydrogen fuel cell and electrification drivetrain.

For hydrogen vehicles in particular, technicians focused on inspecting the hydrogen storage tanks and connecting lines for leaks, given the high-pressure nature of hydrogen storage and use. Seoul Energy Corporation said the checks are designed to identify any potential for hydrogen leakage before vehicles hit the road, preventing safety incidents during travel and building public confidence in hydrogen vehicle safety.

Technicians also checked tire pressure and tread wear and other items directly linked to safe driving. Depending on each vehicle's condition, complimentary services such as wiper blade and air filter replacement and washer fluid top-ups were also provided.

"Every resident who chooses and uses an eco-friendly vehicle is making a meaningful contribution to advancing carbon neutrality," Seoul Energy Corporation President Hwang Bo-yeon said. "Seoul Energy Corporation will continue to expand safety services that residents can feel and rely on, so that their efforts are not undermined by inconveniences during use."

Seoul Energy Corporation said it will continue to build a safe operating environment for hydrogen and electric vehicle users in line with the broader expansion of eco-friendly vehicles, and will strengthen citizen-centered green mobility services going forward.
