Gyeongbuk College holds railway career program for high school students

The Department of Railway Electric Locomotive Engineering at Gyeongbuk College of Technology held its 2026 Future Railway OFT Dream-Up Program for 50 high school students on Saturday.

The event was designed to help high school students interested in railway careers build practical career-planning skills through hands-on job experience and mentoring.

Participants operated electric rolling stock and specialized training equipment for the Class 2 Electric Railway Operator's License, gaining an in-depth understanding of railway driving operations.

The program featured a career lecture and broadcast mentoring session led by working locomotive engineer Shin Chan-woo, driving simulation exercises using both a partial task simulator and a full task simulator, and a precision stopping competition among the participating students — all of which drew an enthusiastic response.

Moon Dong-seop, the professor who oversaw the program, said the department would "continue to solidify its standing as a railway-specialized college that nurtures expert talent to lead the future railway industry."

Meanwhile, Gyeongbuk College operates the Hyeonam Railway Academy, the only institution among all junior colleges nationwide designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as an authorized training institution for the Class 2 Railway Vehicle Operator's License.
