City officials deliver rice, pork, beef and daily necessities to mark the holiday
Naju city visited social welfare facilities across the city from Sept. 11 to Monday to deliver gift packages and share warmth with residents and staff ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
The city carried out the outreach at 50 social welfare facilities, aiming to support neighbors who might otherwise be left out during the holiday and to recognize the hard work of facility staff, the city said Tuesday.
Gift packages were assembled with a variety of items intended to provide practical help to facility residents and users, including white rice, domestic pork, Korean beef soup sets and daily necessities.
City officials also sat down with facility staff and users while delivering the packages, carefully listening to operational difficulties and suggestions.
The head of one local nursing home expressed gratitude, saying, "It is a great source of strength that you remember to visit our facility every holiday season and bring warm hearts and gifts. We will care for our elderly residents with even greater dedication to repay your kindness."
Naju Mayor Yun Byeong-tae said he hoped the Chuseok gift packages would bring "even a small measure of comfort and joy" to welfare facility users and staff. "We will continue to deliver thorough welfare administration so that no neighbor is left behind and everyone can enjoy a warm and plentiful holiday," he said.
